This application addresses the critical issue of audio-visual synchronization across various media formats and production environments. It provides tools for technicians and professionals engaged in video, film, live events, and home entertainment systems to verify and calibrate AV sync effectively.

Designed for use with HD and SD cameras and microphones, the app allows users to calibrate audio delay by simply aiming their equipment at an Apple iDevice and adjusting settings accordingly. It also facilitates synchronization of video and audio files via included QuickTime media, which can be transferred through iTunes File Sharing to editing systems such as Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Premiere Pro, Pro Tools, EDIUS, or iMovie. This feature is particularly useful for ensuring consistency between production content and client monitors or playback environments.

The tool supports a broad range of platforms, including iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, as well as Mac, PC, Linux, and UNIX systems. It is suitable for broadcast playout servers and other critical professional applications where precise AV alignment is essential.

This solution is highly relevant for various applications including HD, SD, 360-degree camera systems—including DSLRs like Canon 5D and RED cameras—film production, post-production editing, visual effects work in applications such as After Effects or Cinema4D, digital cinema screenings, large-scale live events, web-based content, mobile platforms, and VR headsets like Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR. The inclusion of camera chip charts further assists in precise camera calibration across production stages.

Operationally, the app launches into a continuous playback loop featuring a sequence of visual bars and tones intended for AV sync testing. Users initiate and halt the test by interacting with on-screen controls. Additionally, it includes a dedicated web browser integrated into the application for accessing supplementary resources on AV synchronization principles and tutorials.

The app contains an embedded ZIP archive with eight QuickTime movie files (including NTSC and PAL formats) encoded with HDV codecs suitable for professional review on various systems. These media files can be used across different platforms to verify AV sync on edit suites, display devices, or home theaters via USB transfer or direct playback. An H264 version is also provided for high-definition TV and cinema applications.

For comprehensive calibration and verification, the application integrates a custom web browser linked to search engines like Google and YouTube, as well as Wikipedia entries explaining AV synchronization concepts in greater detail.
